More than 5,100 visitors enjoyed the fantastic event, which celebrated Mother’s Day and the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s 23rd anniversary at the Tuen Mun Public Riding School.
The Tuen Mun Public Riding School’s Open Day provided a variety of interesting activities including: the Hong Kong Jockey Club Public Riding School’s Jumping Competition, HKJC Celebrity Fun Race, Stable visit tour and Pony Ride, and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department who set up the Game Booths and Bouncy Castle for public entertainment. In addition, the Riding for the Disabled Association Ltd. (RDA) prepared an RDA Parade, Mini pony photo taking booth and charity stalls selling souvenirs, ice cream, drinks and snacks to the public in honor of Mother’s Day.
Although it was a very hot day the visitors still took the time to watch the RDA presentation. Under the leadership of the coach and volunteers, our six Rehab riders performed a Musical Parade followed by a demonstration from two Sports riders who have recently advanced from the rehab program to sports elite training. The spectators were very impressed with the demonstration, which highlighted the benefits of therapeutic riding for disabled people.
This year over 1,600 people made donations and met the Shetland mini ponies at the “Mini pony photo taking” charity booth. All the drinks sold at the RDA charity sale booth were generously sponsored by Swire Beverages Limited. A big thank you also goes to Mr. Thomas Yeung who sponsored ice-cream for charity sales. At the end of the day RDA had raised more than HK$36,000.
We would like to thank the HKJC for inviting RDA to take part in the TMPRS Open Day once again, and also all the RDA committee members who gave their support at this event, and of course the RDA staff, volunteers, riders and their families who contributed their time and effort to make this a truly successful day.
