More than 250 guests, community partners and avid supporters of the Riding for the Disabled Association Limited (RDA) gathered at the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Sha Tin Racecourse to join the Hong Kong Riding for the Disabled Association Cup Luncheon 2017 this afternoon.
This year, RDA is honored to have Professor Sophia S C CHAN, JP, Secretary for Food and Health joined the event as our officiating guest. Moreover, Mr. David LEUNG, JP, Commissioner for Rehabilitation, participated in the event and presented the certificate to Mr. Daniel ZIGAL, the former Co-opted GC Member of RDA for recognizing his invaluable contribution to RDA.
Dr Simon S O IP, GBS, CBE, JP, President of RDA and Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), Mr. Anthony W K CHOW, SBS, JP, Voting Member of RDA and Deputy Chairman of HKJC, Mr. Silas YANG, JP, Voting Member of RDA and Board of Steward of HKJC, also supported the event. Other guests are Mr. John SLOSAR, Chairman of the Voting Members Committee of RDA and Chairman of John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd, Mr. John WITT, Voting Member of RDA and Group Finance Director of Jardine Matheson Group, and Mrs. Purviz SHROFF, a renowned philanthropist of the city.
Before the luncheon starts, Dr. Simon S O IP, GBS, CBE, JP, President of RDA and Chairman of HKJC, and, Mr. Thomas YEUNG, Chairman of RDA, extended their warmest welcome to the guests in their individual welcome remarks. Moreover, Professor Sophia S C CHAN, JP, Secretary for Food and Health also recognized RDA’s contribution to the disabled community in her speech and called for the continuous support from all donors to RDA. Besides, this year RDA has invited a well-known artist Ms. Margaret CHUNG to become RDA Ambassador, aiming at arouse the public awareness and encouragement to disabled community as well as the support to RDA, the only non-profit charity in Hong Kong that provides therapeutic riding services to disabled people. During the event, Mr. Thomas YEUNG and Ms. Margaret CHUNG were having a simple and solemn signing ceremony.
The highlight was at the 7th Race, the Hong Kong Riding for the Disabled Association Cup. Fourteen race horses aimed for gold over 1,600 metres race. The representative of the winning syndicate, received the trophy of Hong Kong Riding for the Disabled Association Cup from Mr. Thomas YEUNG, Chairman of RDA. Afterward, Mr. John SLOSAR, Chairman of the Voting Members Committee of RDA, Mrs. Purviz SHROFF, the Gold Sponsor of the Luncheon and Mr. David HA, Long Term Sponsor of RDA, presented miniature trophy to Happy Buddies Syndicate, the winning owner, TP YUNG, the winning trainer, and N CALLAN, the winning jockey respectively.
At the end of the Luncheon, Dr. Simon S O IP, GBS, CBE, JP, President of RDA and Chairman of HKJC and Mr. Thomas YEUN, Chairman of RDA, toasted and congratulated the success of the event with Mr. Anthony W K CHOW, SBS, JP, Voting Member of RDA, Mr. John SLOSAR, Chairman of the Voting Member Committee of RDA, Mrs. Purviz SHROFF, Gold Sponsor of RDA, Mr. David HA, Long Term Sponsor of RDA, Mr. Andrew HARDING, Executive Director of Racing Authority of HKJC, Mr. Anthony KELLY, Executive Director of Racing Business and Operation of HKJC and the winning owners.
